TRIFON ZAREZAN – the biggest wine holiday

For another consecutive year on February 14, Chateau Botevo celebrated the holiday of St. Trifon Zarezan`s Day. The blessing and cutting of the vineyards, the ritual bread and the wine vessel are part of our folk and our personal tradition.

According to folk traditions, Saint Triphon is a patron of the vine-growers, wine-makers and publicans. On this day ritual felling of vineyards is done. According to ethnographers, the ancient cult of Dionysius, the god who was once worshiped as a patron of wine, joy and vines, lies at the heart of the holiday. It is believed that wherever he passes, people learn to grow vines and make wine.
